Study after study has shown that people of all ages benefit greatly from playing a musical instrument. It increases feelings of well being, has been shown to improve the mental agility of participants, and can even offer general health benefits. For all these reasons, a really good musical instrument is one of the best investments that you will ever make. Now there's a new way to ensure that you or your child have the best possible start in music.

Take it away is an Arts Council England initiative designed to help all UK citizens develop their love of music. It does so by making it easier to buy musical instruments, offering an interest free loan over ten months to assist purchase of new and second hand instruments through participating retailers.

The loan is available on instruments costing over £100, and can be used to finance any amount up to £2,000. Additionally, the loan can be used to cover the cost of common extras such as gig bags, stands, music books, guitar straps, amps, lessons, etc, when bought at the same time. The loan can also be used to finance the first £2,000 of the cost of instruments priced above this amount.

Here at Northern Music we offer a carefully selected range of true quality instruments at value prices, including new, second hand, and also ex-studio (ie instruments used for a minimum of 6 months by the Northern Music Academy). These instruments are chosen to offer the greatest pleasure to our customers and can really improve their chances of success - and remember that all instruments that we sell (over £100) are eligible under the Take it Away scheme - making quality musical instruments more affordable than ever before.

We firmly believe that this inclusive scheme offers a fantastic opportunity for individuals starting in or returning to music, and will make a positive contribution to the nation by helping many more of us to develop the musical abilities that we all have inside.
