PrintMusic represents a formidable feature array for quite modest outlay; so modest, in fact, that if you write music regularly, especially for choirs, bands, orchestras or students, it may be hard to justify not making the investment. Your reviewer is a relatively recent convert to Finale music software, and I can attest to the advantages of working quicker and slicker. Composing and arranging music can indeed be a joy, but the act of writing it out, even with some of the software now available, can often seem too much a chore. I had needed for some time a quick and easy way to capture my musical ideas in print, in a form that is easy to disseminate. Software which is powerful, but hard to learn, has little attraction to me - I've been that way before, and would prefer to spend my time producing musical output, rather than perusing manuals.
Powerful enough for many users, PrintMusic is a very popular choice from the Finale stable. Users requiring more power do, however, have two further options: Allegro, at £116.95, and Finale itself, from £214.95 (Academic version) plus VAT.
