Introducing the new Kurzweil SP2 Stage Piano - First of a new generation of Pro products from this legendary keyboard maker.
Product Details
AT last - Kurzweil have finally launched the long awaited new wave of professional keyboards, beginning with the next generation of their long awaited SP Stage Piano Series - the SP2.Pro players around the world have been impatient for evidence of the much vaunted comeback of the erstwhile keyboard king - well here it is. Pitching in with a very affordable stage piano ahead of the release of the formidable PC3 in early 2008, Kurzweil have chosen to release a keyboard that would be aspirational, were it not so driven by value; in other words, here is a terrific keyboard that you can actually afford now!
The hammer action is top drawer, making this a very easy keyboard on which to play expressively. Amongst electronic pianos I am used KURZWEIL's very own PC2X, so I was delighted to find that true dynamics were so easily achieved on this new model.
A very tidy sound set includes worthy piano and electric piano sounds, where the hallmark of superior sampling for which KURZWEIL has always been renowned means that the sounds behave themselves in every register, at any dynamic, with a clean, glitch free decay. Other voices work well too, with plenty of energy to the organs, punchy bass, sensitive guitars, brilliant brass, etc. Split and layer are included, of course, as are a built in metronome and a selection of 64 rhythm patterns for practice purposes.
Build feels reassuringly substantial. Connections are fairly simple, though appropriate for live performance, with the usual MIDI, headphones and stereo out, but with the addition of USB to keep all bases covoured.
Our View
Great to play, well put together and easy to use, and with some terrific sounds, the overwhelming feeling with this instrument is that you get an awful lot for the money.
Alternatives? Realistically, at this price? I can't think of any.
Over to KURZWEIL
The SP2X delivers the legendary Kurzweil sound, with all of its detail and refinement, in a digital stage piano which is both professional and easy to use. Using the next generation of Kurzweil technology, the SP2X provides some of our best sounds; pianos, EPs, strings, pads, mallets and voices, all available at the touch of a button.
Endless hours of engineering and sample editing went into our Triple Strike Grand Piano sound. Behind the scenes, the SP2X's powerful synth engine brings these samples to life and makes them sing. The result is an instrument which not only sounds like, but feels like a real piano.
64 note polyphony ensures that notes will continue sounding even under high demand performance situations and a USB interface allows the SP2X to connect to a computer for complete MIDI performance, data storage and OS updates.
The SP2X features Kurzweil's renowned effects processing technology, the same leading-edge technology found in all of our professional products. The SP2X's effects can put the right finish on any sound whether it's crystal clear or warm and organic.
Ideal for both practice and songwriting, the SP2X comes equipped with 64 pre-recorded drum grooves, rhythms and adjustable metronome.
